I first started making toys for little to medium guys, and they are fun to make. There are so many parts you can use to get some really cool toys.
I have created 2 styles of toys “Destructor toys” and “A Bit of Time toys”. “Destructor toys” are things like shredders, quick chews, paper, and soft wood ones. Toys your bird can get quick and instant satisfaction for “laying his beak into” some nice soft pine or a great chewy Bagel toy. Sometimes they will have to work a bit to get to a piece but pretty much these toys are there for a good time not a long time J
“A Bit of Time toys” is exactly that, these will take a bit of time to get thru. Harder woods, more pieces, things are a bit more complicated to work at, maybe a bit of chewing to work at getting a treasured treat. This is the toy I give my guys if we are out for the day or something with a bit more staying power to play with.
By giving your bird a mix of Destructor & Bit of Time toys, add some footies, fun perches and a swing or two and you are on your way to a happy feathered friend.
No matter what, I have used bird safe materials to make these toys. Sometimes the colour will vary but my commitment to safety and creating fun safe toys, never does.
As with all birds no matter what size, the most important thing is to know your bird, no matter how safe a toy is, some birds out there seem to be able to find a way of getting into trouble no matter what.
Always make sure there are no long threads, or lengths to get caught in and check all toys regularly, whether they are a Fun For Feathers toy or one from somewhere else.
